First Look: Cosco Scenera Extend Convertible Car Seat đź‘€
I had my first look at the new Cosco Kids Scenera EXTEND Convertible at the NY Child Passenger Safety Conference this past week! This “Extend” model is the 3rd generation of the budget-friendly convertible from Dorel Juvenile Group, and it’s replacing the popular Scenera Next model which will continue to be sold until existing stock is depleted.
As you can see, Scenera EXTEND is quite a bit wider and taller than its predecessor. These enhancements are designed to help it fit heavier kids since it’s now rated to 50 lbs. in the forward-facing position, and also to make this model compliant with the new side-impact standard that takes effect at the end of June.
All the details will be in our complete review but in the meantime, here are a few specs and measurements. MSRP is still TBD, but this model will continue to be the most affordable convertible car seat in the Cosco Kids lineup.
Rear-facing 5-40 lbs., 19-40”
Child MUST ride RF until reaching the weight, height, or fit limit
If installed RF in outboard seating position, car seat should make light contact with the back of the front seat (or be as close to touching as possible)
Forward-facing 30-50 lbs., 34.4 - 44”
Child MUST have outgrown RF position by weight, height or fit
Car seat MUST be tethered

Weight: I didn’t have my luggage scale but it’s still light enough to pick up with 1 finger
The updated design of the Scenera EXTEND is significantly different from the previous “Next” model, and we look forward to seeing how children of different sizes fit in the new seat. EXTEND is also wider and taller than its predecessor, so we will be sure to test it in a variety of vehicles during our extensive, real-world review process.
