Doona X vs Doona+ Comparison

The long-anticipated Doona X is launching soon, and we were eager to check it out at the 2026 ABC Expo. Here are some preliminary details about the new Doona X and how it compares with the current Doona+ model.

The Doona+ model will continue to be available, at least for now.

The Doona X has many upgrades over the current + model. One of the nicest improvements is a nearly flat recline feature in stroller mode. This feature is ONLY an option in stroller mode and cannot be used in the vehicle.

Features/Highlights

  • Handle can be extended up to 2” taller than Doona+

  • 5-position no-rethread harness

  • Harness strap covers have a strip of Velcro on top which holds the harness out of the way while loading

  • 3 positions for stroller mode (They refer to these positions as Sit, Relax & Lean BacK)

  • Extended zip-off canopy

  • Base has rigid LATCH attachments, a load leg, a level indicator, and a tensioning lockoff

  • Unique 2-step carrier release feature on the side of the base

  • Wheels are easy to remove/replace, have shock absorbers, and a single brake

  • Soft release mechanism when unfolding wheels

  • Optional storage basket accessories (one doubles as a backpack)

  • Optional Summer Canopy with extra ventilation

  • Compliant with new side-impact standard (FMVSS 213a)

Overall, we were very impressed with the improvements and updated features on the Doona X. It definitely exceeded our expectations. We can’t comment on the installation until we have the opportunity to put this seat through its paces, but the X base is a big improvement over the original base. We anticipate that the installation with the new base will be quick and secure, thanks to its rigid LATCH connectors and load leg.
