Multi-Directional Tether
Rove includes a multi-directional tether that can be used rear- or forward-facing. The use of the multi-directional tether is optional when rear-facing but UPPA strongly recommends its use when possible since it helps to reduce rotation in a frontal crash. When used rear-facing, it is routed around the side of the car seat and attached to the vehicle seat's tether anchor.
The rear-facing tether is incompatible with the Tesla Model X. This is unsurprising since many things are difficult with the Model X and tethering is certainly one of them. The “shoulders” of the vehicle seat aren’t quite broad enough to hold the tether at the angle it comes in at and it slides down. It’s fine forward-facing, though it may need to be re-adjusted from time-to-time just like other tethers.
Forward-facing, use of the tether is always preferred when a tether anchor is available for that seating position. However, if necessary, Rove can be installed forward-facing with just a seatbelt in vehicles or seating positions that do not have a tether anchor.
Rove Fashions
Rove is available in both DualTECH and PureTECH fabric collections. These collections are flame retardant free and have foams that are also FR-free. All UPPAbaby collections are GREENGUARD® Gold Certified for safer air quality and low chemical emissions.
The PureTECH soft merino wool fabric is hypoallergenic and temperature regulated with naturally cooling properties.

INSTALLATION COMMENTS
Rear-Facing Installation
When rear-facing, any recline position may be used to achieve an appropriate recline. There’s a single recline zone for rear-facing; however, the younger the child, the more you’ll probably want the bubble to be closer to the rear of the vehicle. UPPAbaby allows a folded blanket or pool noodle under the base at the vehicle seat bight (crack) if you can’t quite get there with the recline on the Rove itself.
Installation with the seat belt is easy. Open the lockoff, run the seat belt through, buckle, pull snug until you see green on the SmartSecure indicator, then close the lockoff over the belt. This is a true lockoff where you don’t have to lock the retractor. In a bevy of car seats that have “lockoffs” that require you to lock the retractor, it’s refreshing to go old school. 🙌
Test for tightness at the belt path. UPPAbaby highly recommends using the top tether when rear-facing to reduce downward rotation; it’s like having a load leg.
Forward-Facing Installation
Recline angle must be in the red zone
80% of Rove’s base must be on vehicle seat and flat
Forward-facing installation is similarly easy with a lockoff and SmartSecure indicator.
LATCH Considerations
LATCH Weight Limits:
Rear-facing LATCH weight limit: 40 lbs.
Forward-facing LATCH weight limit: 45 lbs.
Center LATCH installations with Non-Standard Spacing:
UPPAbaby allows the center seating position to be used with LATCH if the lower anchors are spaced less than 22″ apart and the seating position is approved for use with LATCH by the vehicle manufacturer. If the anchors are more than 22″ apart or the manufacturer does not approve that seating position for LATCH, then the vehicle seatbelt must be used for installation.
FIT-TO-CHILD
The Rove comes with a Comfort Inlay insert, a buckle pad, and harness pads.
Comfort Inlay: use between 14-20 lbs. or until it becomes difficult to buckle the harness
Buckle pad: optional
Harness pads: optional
Adjusting the harness height straight out of the box was . . . a challenge. Despite the easy instructions laid out in the manual, mine refused to budge. Kecia’s was also fussy so we knew it wasn’t a one-off. After some trial and error, we came up with some tips to move it smoothly out of the bottom spot.
Put some downward pressure on the headrest while pulling up on the headrest adjuster handle; this will disengage the actuator and allow it to move freely, or
Wiggle the headrest adjuster handle back and forth and pull up
Need a video instead of words? We’ve got you covered:
Our first model, Baby P, is 4 months old, weighs 14 lbs., and is 24”. She just meets the minimum requirements to use the Rove rear-facing. Fit on her is good on the lowest headrest setting.
Our second model is M, 4 years old, 40 lbs., and 42”. She still has 3 harness settings to go before outgrowing by height.

DISADVANTAGES
(In all fairness, these aren’t necessarily problems but we list them here to inform potential consumers of specific Rove issues)
It sits up high on its base (this could be a pro or con, depending on personal preferences)
Fairly low top harness slots
With a 14 lb. starting weight limit, Rove is not suitable for a newborn.
